When you installed the kit did you use a light coat of grease between the bearing and seal..? Remove the belt rotate the pulley..See if the pulley rotates easy..You might have binding at the seal and bearing..
Ok great..Then you would not have seen the shaft spinning above the transmission..The break assembly was locked in place..The sound you heard was the break releasing..Most likely from having it apart and working on it..
