Customer Question

Good Afternoon. I finally made it back to my house to take on this dryer. I replaced the wire first and although I get my display I do not however get the dryer to work. In looking at the part I bought for the terminal it has wires as a part of the terminal block....should I replace these wires too?

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

You only need to replace those wires if they are damaged / melted / or shorted.

Check to see if the timer still counts down after you press the start button. Most of the time when this common issue happens, the dryer won't run but the timer will still count down.

And do you have a model number?

Gew9868kq3 is the model number and yes the counter does count down...the wires looked fine to me...i didnt see any damage

If the timer is counting down, this means that your thermal fuse has gone bad and will need to be replaced. If you remove the 3 screws along the bottom of the lower front panel, you can remove the lower front panel by pulling down and forward. Unplug the dryer and look behind the lint filter enclosure to the left. There is a little 1" thin flat white plastic device attached to the top of the blower wheel housing. You will need to order and replace this fuse to correct your problems.

Just for reference, the only other thing that can cause this issue is if the dryer thinks the belt is broken. So when you have the lower front panel off, do make sure the belt isn't laying on the ground broken. There is a switch next to the motor that is activated when the belt is taut. If by chance the belt is attached and the fuse happens to be good or when you replace it you still have an issue, you'll need to replace the belt switch.

As a last resort, the control board will need to be replaced because it's not sensing the belt switch properly so it will not turn the motor on even though the timer is counting down.

i dont see anything on the blower housing. but there is something on a seperate housing to the right with springs in it. if you can give me your number i can send you a picture of it.
Expert:  Tyler Z. replied 5 years ago.
no that's not it. It's on the blower housing behind the lint filter enclosure to the left. The lint filter housing is blocking it which is why you can't see it. If you have a model number I can give you a link to the part so you can see what it looks like.

okay found it....I have to drive an hour to get this thermal there anything else that the short could have taken out so I can pick that up as well?
Expert:  Tyler Z. replied 5 years ago.
yes, the control board can cause the problem. Before you get the fuse, just unplug the dryer and disconnect the 2 wires going to the fuse. Tape the 2 wires together to bypass the fuse. If the dryer still won't run, replace the main control board.

okay I taped the two wires going to the fuse on top of the blower and still not working...the timer counts down and I can hear a click when I push the start switch... the sensing light comes on but the dryer doesnt I chose the dryer rack option which doesnt sense for wettness and still nothing....does that sound like a control board??
Expert:  Tyler Z. replied 5 years ago.
yes, it sounds like you need to order and replace the control board.
