when my insinkerator 80s is on and the disposer is free you only hear the hum and not the disposer turning

Hi,Welcome to Just Answer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX forward to helping you today.

If the disposer is free turning with the wrench and doesn't start it means the start windings in the motor are shot. unfortunately its cheaper to replace the disposer than repair it. the average cost of a motor for one of these is $95.00 and most are not in stock. a lot of the time you cant get these apart without doing more damage to it.the corrode inside after years of use. sorry for the bad news. thanks Bryan
