during the wash cycle it makes a growling noise for several minutes. It seems to be operating properly as the dishes are clean when complete.

it was very quite for the first couple months then it was noticed and has been the same ever since. We have had it for 6 months

there is approx 1" about 1/2 way up to the heating elem. It is not making the noise, perhaps it is noisy during the drying cycle not the wash.

Okay for some reason you're not getting enough water. This should reach the heater at least. When there's not enough water in the machine the pump tends to growl because the water in the pump assembly at the time, the issue is either with the float which is on the inside of the dishwasher or your fill valve is not opening fully, most likely it's the fill valve itself although this is only six months old if you have hard water or any kind of grit in your water this will cause the valve not to open fully, the fill cycle is a timed cycle so if the valve doesn't open fully the amount of water going nuclear machine is not enough in the allotted time, check your float make sure it lives up and down freely, if it does replace the fill valve,here is a link where you can order this part and there is also a video to show you how to replace it, thanks and very best wishes, Bryan
