I am getting an error message of E1 when I start my washer

This answer was rated:

I am getting an error message of E1 when I start my washer (stacked about 1992). The error comes and goes. It will fill the tub, but will not start the cycle.
Do you have the make and model number?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Error os actually 1E

When you open and close the lid, do you hear a clicking noise?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

And when I close the lid, I still can't get it to "come off" of pause when I hit the pause.

It will fill all the way with water, but it won't start because of the lack of "click" or coming off of pause.

OK, what you need is the lid lock switch. This is the switch that tells the machine that the lid is closed and safe to run. I can look up the part for you if you are going to change it yourself.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Sure. I would like the part. Thanks.

What do I need to know about the "substitution" notes.

I do plan to accept this answer, by the way.

I just need to understand. Thanks for your time.

This is switch is used on all Maytag laundry products. The original switch has two terminals, this one has three. Just be mindful to note where the old wire locations are on the switch when you change it out.
