Our centennial top loading washing machine is now running just cold water. This is after a shutdown of the water in our entire building for several hours which apparently resulted in a build-up in sediment in various internal faucets in our apartment. We were able to clear the filter in the kitchen sink and found small bits of metal had blocked all flow. Is there a filter or some other part where the sediment might be blocking the hot water flow in the washing machine? If so, how is it accessed?

IF you remove the hot water hose from the back of the washer, there is a metal screen that is inserted into the washing machine water valve. You can pry this screen out and clean it.
