REFRIG/SIDE-BY-SIDE + DISP, FRIGIDAIRE, FRS20ZRG...

REFRIG/SIDE-BY-SIDE + DISP, FRIGIDAIRE, FRS20ZRG. Refrigerator/freezer compressor running continuously. Freezer 28 deg., Refrig 70 deg. Condenser fan operating. Condenser pretty much dust free. Fan area dust free. Freezer control set at coldest. Refrig control set at mid range. No air flow warm or cold from inside top of refrig exit/down drop. Automatic ice maker is not set to operate. Would operate prior to this problem. For recorded temperatures , doors have been inspected closed. Meat keeper chilled air control set to mid dange.

First look in the freezer (even though it may be warm) at the rear inside wall, can you find a frosty spot anywhere?

Check to see that the freezer fan is blowing steady air out of the vent in the freezer, is it?

Yes. Frost on back wall of freezer. May have been partially or completelly blocked by items placed in freezer.

In the diagram below that is the lower left front of your refrigerator behind the kick panel. Take a flat tip screwdriver (sometimes there is a knob) and turn that part slowly clock wise. It will click as you go. When you get to the point the refrigerator shuts off stop there. Open the freezer door and listen near the lower rear inside panel for a few minutes. Do you hear an occassional hissing sound?

You are fine, you are listening for water to be dripping on a defrost heater. So if you get your hands back in there be careful. I will be here several more hours.

Turned knob. Stopped compressor motor. Removed frozen food . Waiting for back side to thaw enough to hiss. Looks like that back side needs to thaw out , drain any moisture that is in there. Then restart the fan. The evaporator fan is still running. Hand on the compressor would make me think it is running. What did I turn off?

I emptied the frozen food. Shut off the refrig/freezer entirely. Placed 500 watt light to shine on the back insided panel. Will have dinner then get back to you.

You put the refrigerator into the defrost cycle. The compressor and rear fan should be off. Do you think you could remove that lower rear panel and take a look at the heater under the bottom of the cold coils behind there? Evidently there is a part bad behind that panel. If you have lights that are in the way you should unplug the refrigerator before you do that. I think you may find that heater broken.

I completly cleaned the cold coils. Defrosted every thing. Cleaned the back bottom and hot coils. Cleaned the refrigerator. Now running the thing for the night. I'll have to watchout for another cold air steam blockage. In that case I'll have to look for a bad defrost circuit part as you suggest. I have a circuit diagram for that that I got from the company that owns frigidaire. What you did for me was get me to empty the freezer and look in the right place. Thanks much.
