Customer Question

we lost power (NY) for 4 days - power restored yesterday - now the refrigerator won't cool. i hear a "running" sound, have tried turning on and off and turning knobs to coldest setting.

Can't get a service person for 2 weeks due to widespread outage. is there anything i can try or do?

Hi I'm John I will help you with the fridge problem.

The sound you hear can you tell me if the compressor is going please.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
hi John - i believe the compressor is going. i am hearing the normal operating sound coming from the fridge
Expert:  John replied 6 years ago.
What temp is in the freezer and how long has the fridge been going ?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
the fridge turned on with the power yesterday at 2 pm.

the freezer is at room temp. we lost power for 4 days so it was gradually warming, but now fully warm
Expert:  John replied 6 years ago.

The fridge has to be pulled out to make sure the compressor is going if its been on for that length of time the freezer should be cold enough to freeze water at least.

Let me know if its working please.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
i would say it is not working because no cold has been produced in over 20 hours and its even warmer than yesterday. i do hear a running sound, which makes me think it is on. is therE any other way to check besides what we have done?
Expert:  John replied 6 years ago.

It must not be working the noise you hear could be the freezer fan motor and the fan motor by the compressor, The relay on the compressor could be burnt out.

Send me the model number I will send you the part number of the relay.

This is the relay for your model , It could have failed when the power went out or came back on.Its located on the side of the compressor .
