I have a Kenmore fridge that has the freezer on the bottom.

Resolved Question:

I have a Kenmore fridge that has the freezer on the bottom. Model no. 596.66032600.
The coils in the freezer part are all frosted and the fridge part doesn't get cold.Is this the thermostat? and where is it located so I can change it.

Hi I'm John I will help you with the problem.

The defrost thermostat will be clamped to the top freezer coil its a common part to fail.

This is the thermostat if you have a meter you can O H M it out in the freezer as it will open at 55 deg, I would replace the thermostat.

Can I just cut the wires and re-splice the new ones in?

Yes thats how you replace it use the wire nut connectors then wrap electrical tape around the connector to stop moisture .
