i have had a GE spacemaker xl-model since 1997.recently it has started turning off in the middle of cooking a item-especially if it is over 6-8 min.it will come back on in 5-10 min.we purchase a new one.Haven't taken it out of box yet. this is an over the stove-built-in.we unplugged it to take it down a put the new one in.we replugged it for a min and it came back on.It continues todo this-it looks like new.what could b wrong-should we thow it away and install the new one.

ok, the problem is the control board, the transformer is overheating and the board is shutting down, this is expensive though.$191.00, most people don't put that much money into these because the magnetron in these are only good for about 5 years before it goes, my advice is to replace the microwave, if you do want to fix this you can order the control @ http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Control-Board/254586 hope this helps, thanks, Bryan
