The dryer drum won't rotate...

The dryer drum won't rotate - I've taken the front and top panels off the dryer but can't get to the belt (I assume I need to change the belt); do I have to take the drum out to access?

You said the drum doesnt rotate does the motor start up.

Originally, the dryer was making a high-pitched squeeking noise and after playing w/ the drum (not disassembling anything), the noise turned into a loud thumping/grating noise (like rubbing 2 bricks together). I took the dryer apart (I was able to take the front and top panels off but the sides & back are one big piece and I was too intimated to mess w/ that). I vacumned all lint/dirt, put the dryer back together and the noise is gone (purrs just like when it was new) BUT the drum doesn't rotated (which is probably why there is no noise). I don't see how I can access the motor belt/pulley system w/out removing the drum (all parts are behind the drum). Oh, it heats up (not sure if you need to know this). Trying to fix this before hubby gets home (he left when I had the dryer torn apart. . .just shaking his head - lol). Thanks.

Routing a Maytag Dryer Belt is a job that can be completed in just a few minutes. The Maytag dryer is a fairly simple and common design, running the belt around the drum as well as the idler arm and motor pulleys. Occasionally, you will need to replace the belt because of wear or breakage, since the belt is exposed to extreme heat inside the dryer. You can route the belt yourself, saving you time and money.

Things You'll Need:

Maytag dryer belt

1
Loop the Maytag dryer belt around the dryer drum, verifying that the belt is lined up properly inside the groove with no twists in the belt on the side of the drum.

Move the idler arm pulley forward to allow enough room for the belt to fit
