My washing machine squeals and smells of burning rubber when it's trying to dry out my clothes. Am I looking at the wrong part?I was able to pull the pulley both ways.Answer Summary
The transmission could be the problem, remove the front panel and take the belt off the transmission and turn the pulley both ways if you can only turn it the one way the gears in the transmission are jammed up. The belt is number 603 and the pulley is 725.You can check the clutch the number 608 if you can turn the pulley both ways you can look at the water pump pulley as well see if you can turn that pulley.

Its an expensive repair on that washer I would by a Whirlpool direct drive washer , its one thats easy to repair yourself.
