My Maytag Neptune washer is making a terrible loud whirring

This answer was rated:

My Maytag Neptune washer is making a terrible loud whirring sound when spinning. We had a local service man here who cannot find the problem. He did oil something, but it didn't make a difference. He isnot a Maytag Neptune serviceman and really said he wasn't familiar with what could be wrong - HELP!

does this sound like a jet plane taking off?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Yes, it is sort of like a jet plane taking off.
this isn't a good sign, the rear bearing is failing, I don't know what the tech (oiled) there is no oiling this , its sealed so I think you got ripped off there. anyway this would need to be replaced,

but this is huge as far as cost goes, your looking at more than $800.00 with part and labor, it may be time to consider a new washer at this point, sorry, thanks Bryan

What would you suggest we purchase - another Maytag Neptune???? We have been please with it even though it does have a few "smelling issues"!
they all smell, are you looking to stay with a front load?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Yes, I really like the front load! What is your opinion?
ok, well the front loads today have a lot of electronics issues most all do, its really hard to recommend one over another because of that, the best way to buy is due diligents, check the consumer reports on all machines to see the issues with them and then make a decision, Maytag is owned by Whirlpool now , hope this helps, thanks Bryan
