Customer Question

On an Amana (also Maytag) washing machine, Model LW4303W, the tub seal has failed. I have removed a reluctant agitator and the screw holding the bell housing to the drive shaft for the agitator, but the (white plastic) bell housing will not come off. I have sprayed what I can with PB-Blaster in hopes of getting enough penetration to get it to release, and I'm tapping it with a hammer occasionally for the same reason, so far without luck. Have I missed something, can find nothing else to remove to release it to get at the other components of the Drive Bell & Seal Kit components. I know I'll need to buy that kit if that's the problem. The rest of the washer drive train seems to be in good shape.

is this what you are trying to remove? .Part 768605

Yes, that's the kit I will probably have to replace.

I thought I'd already agreed to payment. I don't see anything else unless it's the 'Truste' link top-right on page. Do I need to do that (this is my first time with this process).

ok these get almost glued on by the soap and are extremely hard to remove at times, it does pull off but sometimes thats impossible, what I have had to do more than once is get a really sharp chisel and spit it to get it off, there really no easy solution to removing

this, these are though. wish I had an easy answer for you, thanks Bryan

Actually, I had considered that but was concerned about the shaft element that comes up through it. So this is probably as good a solution as any and I'll do it. Can you anticipate any other problems I might encounter with this particular kit issue?

I didn't get an answer to the last question about the other parts of the kit.

no particular problems replacing it once you get it off, as far as damaging the shaft just start as far away from the center as possible and try to get it to crack, a pain though I'll tell you, a gear puller really doesn't work well I've tried that, hope this is useful, thanks Bryan
