The door on our Whirlpool Duet Sport washer is stuck closed

This answer was rated:

The door on our Whirlpool Duet Sport washer is stuck closed and it wont cycle... what is the best possible solution?
If you remove the 3 screws along the bottom of the lower front panel, you can then pull the lower front panel down and off. Once you remove the panel you can then reach up behind the front panel and there is a plastic tab attached to the bottom of the door latch assembly. Pull the tab down and the door will unlock. If it locks again and won't unlock, you'll need to order and replace the door latch assembly.

The door opened, we tried to cycle the machine normally after and it won't run properly. The timer is counting down and it started to fill with water, then it stopped filling and began to drain. The drum didn't turn at all. What would best explain this?
it sounds like you probably just have a bad control board because if it filled and then drained but didn't do anything else and before the door wouldn't unlock so it just sounds like a bad control board.

would you know how much this part costs, and how difficult it would be to change?

it's not that hard to change but it costs about $150 or so. To access the control board just remove the top cover. The top cover is held on by 3 screws coming in from the back. Remove the 3 screws and the top panel will pull back up and off.
