Maytag washer A482, purchased 2-87...

Maytag washer A482, purchased 2-87. The machine has been getting out of balance for a while. The last time I used it the machine would not start again & I could not drain the water (Had to mop it out with a towel). Is there any possibility that the machine can be fixed or is it just too old & needs to be put to rest? Thanks

I think I'm doomed......repair man wouldn't even show up.

I just went to test it again. Set on delicate fabrics: It filled, agitated, rested, agitated and now it is spinning with the water staying in the tub. It should have spun after the first agitation also, right?

It should have rinsed.....So in the final spin...The water is not draining from the tub as it spins...?

That's correct. It is spinning but the water remains in the tub.

If thats the case then you either have a something stuck in the drain hose from tub to drain pump(sock Etc)...Or the drain pump is bad...You can access the drain pump by removing the two bottom screws at the front panel....Lift the panel up and out....Make sure the belt is on the drain pump pulley....If it is and spinning then you have a blockage or pump is bad....This model is real easy to get things caught up in hoses thru the bottom port of the tub.......To drain the tub Take and set the drain hose leading to your house drain below the level of the top of washer...The water should drain out....Into bucket....

Something strange .....The machine went past OFF and is now on Regular fabrics agitating. I don't know if it added more water or not.

Sounds like your timer is bad...It should have stopped at off of course....At that age i would replace rather than repair...Bob
