If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

I have had the washer for 18 months. The switch locks just fine, but with extra pressure on the lid the washer will do a load with no more problems...

Also after the washer starts its program no more pressure on the lid is necessary

If you have to put extra weight on the lid to make it work and you've tested the switch OK then inspect the switch actuator attatched to the lid, you may have to modify it to make better contact.

While waiting for your answer I applied a little silicone spray on the switch slider and after two tries the problem went away . Thanks anyway
