My GE refrigerator (3 years old) has begun to click every

Customer Question

My GE refrigerator (3 years old) has begun to 'click' every hour or so for 4 to 8 minutes. The clicking comes from the back of the unit. It sounds like a timer or clock ticking. What is it and do I need to get something fixed?

Hi thanks for the question

Does the fridge work ok

Can you pull out the fridge and tell me if the clicking is from the compressor or the panel just above the compressor.

Customer: replied 8 years ago.
Yes, the frig is working fine. the model no. is GE GDS20KCSABB , Serial no. DL045185. The clicking is coming from a raised panel on the back mid-way up on the left side (if you are standing behind the frig. I can't really pull it all the way out and don't know the location of the compressor. Thanks,

The compressor is at the back behind the panel that goes across the bottom back of the fridge. The clicking can be the motherboard behind that panel you said you saw at the back If the fridge is going ok and its cold I would suggest that the motherboard is clicking and has to be replaced. But first pull the fridge out and take that panel off and if the coils are dirty it could also cause the clicking.

Well, I'm still going to have to call a $70 hr service person to come solve the problem, aren't I? I'm not able to pull the frig out by myself even.

I would call the G E service They could have a call out for that problem with that model.

It could be a warranty repair. When you call G E tell them the problem and give the model and serial number and ask about a warranty on the parts. The compressor has a 5 yr warranty
