I have a Kenmore dehumidifier, model 580.53509 the fan runs but the compressor doesn't kick on.

Owner manual does not show or describes a "relay". They do show an O.L.P.
would that be the same thing?

well they call this allot of different things, what your refering to is the overload protector, its hard to find the parts on this. you can remove this and bring it to an appliance repair shop and have them test it.
