I HAVE A MAYTAG WASHER...

I HAVE A MAYTAG WASHER MODEL # XXXXX SERIAL# XXXXX
IT DOES NOT PUMP AGITATE OR SPIN. I REMOVED THE BELT TO SE IF THE PULLEY UN THE PUMP WAS FROZEN OR THE BEARINGS WERE SHOT. iT MOVES FREELY WITH OUT NOISE. THE PULLEY ON THE DRUM MOVES FREELY ALSO. I ENGAGED MOTOR USING THE NORMAL CONTROLS AND WITH OUT THE BELT ON. i HEAR THE MOTOR ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE BUT IT JUST DOESN'T RUN AS IF SOME THING IS BINDING IT AND STOPPING IT FROM SPINNING. THERE WAS ALSO A SMELL OF RUBBER BURNING AGAIN THIS IS WITH OUT THE BELT ON. WHAT COULD THIS BE.

Hi Thanks for your question,Does the motor smell burnt,You said the rubber smell but what about the motor

Ii can not tell if the odor is coming from the motor it is from that general area and then rises through the drum.

You said there was a smell of burning even without the belt on,If thats the case the motor is burnt,Youwill need a new motor

Couldn't the cause be the transmission or is there a direct drive from the motor

You said you had the belt off the motor when it did that,You can check the tranny by turning the pulley both ways,It it goes both ways,Its ok

Then the transmission or tub bearings seized up, turn the pulley one way for wash the other for spin If one way the tub wont spin its the bearings

IT WILL ONLY ROTATE ONE WAY. WHICH WAY WOULD INDICATE TUB BEARINGS AND WHICH WAY TRANMISSION

For spin it goes up the spindle,for wash it goes the other way, if it locks up its the tranny

i DO NOT UNDERSTAND. WE ARE DUSCUSSING THE ROTATION OF THE PULLEY UNDER THE DRUM. wHILE LOOKING AT THE PULLEY RELATIVE TO CLOCKWISE AND COUNTER CLOCKWISE WHICH DIRECTION THAY IT WON'T TURN WOULD INDICATE TUB BEARINGS AND WHICH TRANI. AGAIN IT TURNS ONE WAY BUT NOT THE OTHER

If you turn it looking at the pulley,counter clock wise,If it locks up its the tranny
