We have an older GE GSS22KGPA side by side refrig that we moved

We have an older GE GSS22KGPA side by side refrig that we moved into the garage when we remodeled. We recently hooked up a water line and changed the water filter but we don't get water or ice. We checked the line to the filter and it is OK. We checked the solonoid (listened) while attempting to get water - it clicked on. We turned the switch on the icemaker on and off and we didn't hear any click on the other solonoid. Can you help?
how old is this refrigerator? by the diagrams it doesnt look that old , do you have a volt meter. do you think you you could make test cord to test the valve, ? you will need an old lamp cord and a couple of 1/4" female connectors. let me know thanks Bryan

Yes, we can make the test cord and test it. We will get back to you once we've done this. Thanks
ok thanks, Bryan

Hi - We have been busy but finally tested the solonoid valve as you directed. Water came streaming out of the front of the refrig and water went into the icemaker so it's not the solonoid valve. What next??
ok this means the main control board is bad. Main Control Board - Click Image to Close, you can order this @ these guys are great and i buy parts from them all the time, this part runs around $135.00 on most sites but they sell it for $113.12 and give a full year warranty. thanks and well wishes, Bryan, p.s. just click the blue link above and it will take you right to the part.

We did get water to the front of the refrigerator and I heard water going into the ice cube trays so the solonoids are good. Now the problem is that the freezer isn't cold and producing ice. The top of the freezer is warmer than the bottom. Food in the middle and lower freezer is still frozen while the top shelves have defrosted. Is this a main control panel problem??
probably, these go bad allot. the only other thing i would check is see if theres frost on the back panel inside the freezer. move your food and scrap the back panel with your nail and see if theres any frost on it, if not you need to replace the board. if there is you may have a defrost problem but that wouldnt stop the water from going through the door when you press it. that would be the board causing this , I believe replacing the board will solve all your problems. thanks Bryan

There is a lot of frost build up on the back of the freezer starting about 1/2 way down. So, we should replace the board then?
no, you probably need a defrost heater thats bad. G.E. has had to re design these also. heres what the new one looks like, Defrost Heating Element - Click Image to Closeif you remove the back panel inside the freezer and defrost it with a hair dryer , under the coils you will find the heater remove it and test it for continuity. if none replace the heater. but this still wont stop the water from comming through the door. heres where you can buy the heater if needed., let me know, you have to defrost all the ice out of the freezer with a hair dryer to get the freezer to work right until you get the heater , dont forget to put the back panel back on. thanks Bryan
