if the heating element in my oven went out would it cause the stove top to stop working too?

Can I get the make and model number of the range please?

it's a caolric oven but i can't find the model number for it

It can be found where you remove the drawer in the bottom on the frame of the range.

i took the drawer out but i don't see a number anywhere

If the oven shorts out on the frame of the range it can take out one of the legs of electricity coming into the unit, you can check your breakers to the range at the ciruit box and shut them off and turn them back on, if that does not help then you have a problem probably at the terminal block at the stove where power comes into it, If you have voltage meter you can check for 220 at this teminal block across the two outer termainal..
