This answer was rated:

I have a Maytag dishwasher that doesn't drain the water all of the time. The model # XXXXX XXXXX I have pulled everything out down to the hole where is drains out of the bottom. I took the hose off from under the washer and blow air through the hose and shot air back up thriugh the pump into the washer. It works once or twice and then the water stops draining again. Help!! Jim

Hi Jim

Thank you for using Just Answer.

Maytags use a drain pump (part 14 on this diagram) -

This site has very good specific procedures to go thru for Maytag dishwashers that do not drain correctly -

Let me know if you need any more information.

Bernie, since my model # XXXXX out with MDB instead of PDB is it going to be the same solution to the problem? Jim

Hi Jim,

The MDB was designated for their better models. The PDB was the same basic design with the Perfoma designation. So, yes for this particular problem you can use the same information.

The "trick" that is explain will probably not be something you will need to do. Everything else is really what you want to do step by step to eliminate all the potential issues and then lead you to the solenoid (if you don't find the problem before).

I will look to see if I have the exact service repair manual for your machine and get back to you later today (or night depending on how busy my job keeps me today).

Is the solenoid shown in the diagram that you sent? If so, what number would it be? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim

Thanks for bringing that up. I took another look..... and the solenoid is on the pump.

This reference must be older than I had thought (because both of the PDB and MDB had the solenoid on the pumps). The first designs may have been different and that is what is referred to there.

You part is here -

The concept is the same and test it the same.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the accept and the bonus. Let me know how you make out.

Here is the service repair manual for you machine.

Do not use AOL because the upload site doesn't work well with it. Choose the free side and download it. You will need Adobe or another application to open the PDF file. You probably have that on your computer already. If you print it, you'll find it easier to deal with.

It will get you through this with correct disassembly procedure and tests. It's much more thorough and you'll get it done right!

What's not in the repair manual are some of the items above from that site. Those are the things you want to check first.

Let me know if you need any more information. You should be able to post to this question to follow up for a couple of more days.
