microwave does not heat up; lights go on OK. Unit is 10 years old. Is it better to repair or just get a new one. ?

You microwave has almost lived its full life. Most manufactures claim microwave ovens, with normal use, have a life of 12 to 14 years.
The magnetron tube, the gadget that produces microwave energy, most likely is your problem. Very expensive repair. I would choose a new microwave oven.
