As a little guide for vintage postcards, you can use this information:

Undivided back (no line in the middle) was for the address ONLY and ispre-1907.

Divided back, with line down the middle, started in March of 1907.

Printed in Germany = 1915 or earlier.

White Border around edge = 1915 to 1930

Woven texture, or linen = 1930 to 1944

Photochrome (shiny finish with a color photographic image) = 1945 to present.

Real Photo Postcards (RRPC) are actual photographs printed on postcard paper, usually black and white = Dates can vary from1901 and up. There are many different guides to determine the age. The easiest way to tell, is to look at the postage stamp (if there is one).

Artist Signed Postcards have a signature or initials of the artist on the front. Knowing the artist who created a postcard can help sell it. Some desirable names are***** Molly Brett, Frances Brundage, Ellen Clapsaddle, Harrison Fisher, C.Klein, Rose O’Neill, George Studdy, Arthur Theile, Louis Wain, to name a few.

Some of the most sought after are “Hold to Light”, RRPC (real photo) with famous people, or dramatic scenes, macabre photos with post-mortem photos, Halloween and Christmas Santa in a purple or brown robe. There are different collectors for everything – you might have railroad theme postcards, or patriotic postcards.

The best way to market and sell your cards depends on how much time you want to spend. You could sell them on eBay if you want to reach a global market. You could also contact a reliable auctioneer in your area and let him/her sell them for you for a small fee.
