Customer Question

I need appraisal of hand painted Limoges vanity tray with matching footed bowls marked M.Z. Austria. The Limoges tray and 2 bowls are all signed by painter who is L. Davis. All trimmed in 14kt. gold with violet motif. Despite different porcelain sources it is a matching vanity set that is hand painted. The feet on footed bowls are the same gold as the edges of tray and bowls. Beautiful set in pristine condition. I am wondering the age and worth.

The suggested insurance or replacement value is $200.

The sets sell at auction for under $100 and can retail in shops for as high as a seller is asking - but they sell at retail for $150 - $200.

They date to 1893 - 1910. Although the gold is real, there is no longer a precious metal melt down value and the gold does not impact or raise the general value of porcelain vanity sets.

Here are links for you to hand painted sets from comparable makers to Moritz Zdenauer and various Limoges manufacturers along with the actual auction sale prices.
