When taking a clear close-up try using the macro function on your camera. It looks like a small flower icon. This will allow sharper focus at a closer-range.

The problem is I only have an iPhone and it does not take good pics of such a small mark. Thats why I described them to you.

From the description an 800 plus a star would indicate it is likely post-1968 Italian sterling. However without seeing it, I cannot be definitive

Can you please provide any photos at all? There are none attached here. The iPhone camera function does have a macro selection as well.
