Customer Question

Hello Will, we have an old german bible bought by my father in the 1950's when he lived in Germany. We are not sure how to appraise it. I took a few photos when we were visiting mom this summer. Do you think you could give us an idea? Thank you, Alex

Hello Doris,
Thank you for getting back with me.
The publisher appears to be Johan Andreas Endters Seel in 1736 (MDCCXXXVI). The german is old german and therefore very hard to translate. I hope this helps.

Please allow me time to research your question, calculate current values and write my answer.

The translation into German is by Teiligo Schriftt, printed, as you observed in 1736.

Unfortunately, so many Bibles have been printed since the invention of the printing press by Gutenburg, they do not carry the same value as other books of the same age.

My research indicates your German Bible translation of the Old and New Testament has a retail value of $500-600.

I have a large collection of very old Bibles, even earlier than yours. I was very surprised to find their values low.

A private seller to a dealer can expect 40-60% of retail value.

I hope I have helped you.
