This is a painted panel screen from Japan called a byobu. The vertical lines each are a space between the panels. Sometimes they fold and are placed on tables, or they are hung together on walls.

This is a late 20th century print reproduction of a Japanese screen panel set, so when reproduced and printed on texturized medium, the gaps between the panels show as lines on this.
