Hello.

First of all, you guys are great, and I appreciate you very much.

OK. So, I am 49 years old, and when I was 10, I attended an art show in Manchester, TN, with my parents. My mother and I were attracted to the oil paintings of a gentleman named Franz Weiss. He had a very thick European accent. My mother liked one painting, and I liked another. I remember him saying, "Buy them both. They will be worth something someday!" As the paintings were only $35 and $40, my mother caved in and bought them both. They've hung on her wall ever since.

I now know that Mr. Weiss was born in Austria, and later moved to Nashville, TN. Both of the paintings are signed and framed under glass. One, a painting of a Birch grove measures 13" X 10" unframed. The other, a small boat on a pond surrounded by a forrest measures about 9 1/2" X 10" unframed.

I'm happy with them, even if they are only worth what we paid. Have you ever heard of Mr. Franz Weiss? Was he correct when he told my mother that they would be worth something someday?

I would be greatful for any information.

Both pictures are in perfect condition, as they have not been exposed to direct sunlight and they are framed under glass.

What a great story! Franz WEISS (1903-1982) is a listed artist in all international guides at present with over 60 known sales of his artwork--oils, watercolors, prints and even scuplture! A very talented man...

At present, original pieces by him such as you have will normally retail in the range of $400 to $600 each, though one piece sold in 2009 at auction in Germany for $3,541--his lifetime high. While not classified as a major artist, his name is XXXXX XXXXX and the work you have can only appreciate over the years. Hope this helps. Best, Will
