I tried holding volume up and power and the tablet never turns on

Technician's Assistant: Have you done a hard reset on your device by holding down the power button until it vibrates or beeps?

No, if I hold the power button for long enough it turns on

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any recent damage to your device (e.g. from dropping it or getting it wet)?

I asked Samsung to reset it and they couldn´t

I think the firmware is corrupt and there is nothing we can do

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Holding down the power and volume up buttons at the same time does nothing.

ok, try holding the volume up button first, then press the power button like you are powering it on and release only the power button once it powers on.

no difference. I haven't used this tablet in so long, I forgot the password. That is the problem. It powers up normally but I can't reset it. I once sent it to Samsung to reset the firmware and they couldn't do it either. Maybe it is just so corrupt there is no way round it.

if it is powering up, the firmware should be fine. If the firmware was corrupted, then it would not boot up at all.

another option you could try is to download this program onto your computer and try to reinstall the firmware from it. you would hook your tablet up to the computer with the data cable you charge with and download the newest firmware and try to reinstall it from there.

I tried that before and it wouldn't let me. I have the latest firmware installed. I guess it's just broken and can't be fixed. Maybe one day I'll remember the original password. Thank you for your efforts.
