Is there anything special you have to do to get your kindle to charge on a Window 8 computer. My computer said it did not recognize it when I plugged in the USB.

No, there is nothing special you have to do on a Windows 8 computer to get your Kindle device to charge.
Simply plug it into any USB port and it should charge.
