I have tf101 on 4.0.3. I want to root and upgrade but windows

This answer was rated:

I have tf101 on 4.0.3. I want to root and upgrade but windows 8 (64bit) or any other pc/ linux or Mac I have tried will not recognise it at all. I also have a tf700 which is 'seen' by the PC. used same Asus to usb leads (3) and differnt usb ports.
I cannot decide if there is a problem with ASUS connecter on tf 101 or a firmware problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I look forward to assisting you.

When you say it is not recognised, you mean that Windows does not "ding" and ask you what to do with the device?

Are you using Odin on the computer?

Please let me know

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

No ding, nothing in device manager.

Not using Odin

ok, have you tried a different cable Marcus?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

tried 3 cables - 2 genuine, one not - all work with my tf700

also tried with and without keyboard

ok, go to Settings, Apps, Manage Apps.

Tell me when your there please

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

can get to Settings/Apps - no 'manage Apps'

ok, then it is directly under Apps.

Connect the Tf1010 to the computer.

Then on the device, look under ALL for

Google Services Framework.

Press it and press Clear Data

Wait 1 minute and tell me if it is now detected please.

data cleared - no response from PC

ok, download Odin from here please

Install it on the computer, and run it with the device connected.

Can Odin detect it Marcus?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

have downloaded Odin3

On pressing start 'no binary selected' - what input does it need?

You wont need one, it would only say this if it cannot see the device.

When you did the factory reset, did it complete? Was all data removed from the device and the device returned to new?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Yes - on more than one occasion!

ok, its the actual port on the device that has failed Marcus.

It is not the firmware, or a corrupted services, we have ruled this out.

It is not windows, as Odin would always see the device.

We have also removed the cable as the cause.

Which confirms the actual port on the device has faulted

I am sorry about this Marcus, but your going to need to have the device replaced. The warranty will cover this, but the issue is a hardware failure, and requires the entire device (as they do not replace this) needs to be replaced.

Sorry about this, and if you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank you

Thanks - of course it is 21/2yrs old so no warranty cover!

I might let my grandchildren use it!

It is always the case, the failures occur just outside of the warranty!

but your Grandchildren will still get good use out of it.

If you need anything else, please let me know Marcus

Thank you
