The drive shaft seperated...

The drive shaft seperated fron the gear box on the 60" bellypan. This is the forth time it has happened. Each of the first three time the Kubota dealer charged me $245 to repair it. I need to know how to do it myself.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the complete model and serial number of your machine?

Bx2670 but I don't have the serial number handy.

#1 in my book, is why the shaft is moving back and coming off? Is the lock not holding, or is the shaft separating? Putting the shaft back, is just slipping it back together!

It just separates. Cannot get it to slip on. Many tries with help.

So the two sections come out of the splines, Splines can be flattened, and it has to be really just right to slip into place. You may need to remove the two parts and use a file on the splines inner and outer to get them to slip together. Then figure out why the shaft can move that far, should never come out unless the deck is moving or transmission mounts move.???

It has done this since it was about 8 months old. Dearer is pretty much usless.

When shaft is on the tractor, how much overlap does it have? You may have a shaft that is too short.

The spindle fits snug into the shaft when it is together

Yes, but how deep does the shaft go? You need enough overlap so it can't slip out! I would want at least 3 inches.

The geared part is about 6 inches long and cannot be seen when it together

So you say it has 6 inches in the tube? How is it possible that it can move 6 inches and come out?

Not really sure. I think it has something to do with the drive over deck. That's when it cone loose. And the lock is disengaded.

Does the deck come loose, or is the drive shaft coming off the lock on the transmission end? May need a new lock end.

Not sure about that. I just see the geared spindle separate. Sometimes the belly pan will not come off.

You say lock is disengaged.? Lock on the drive shaft or the deck?

BothOne time the dealer brought it back after reassembly and the deck would go down. The lock on the belly pan was jammed. Is that lock possibly bent?That is would not go down, sorry.

THe lock may be bent. something isn't right, and it very well may be the deck is coming loose and letting the shaft slip out.
