Hi there, sorry for the delay in getting you a response. I'll do my best to help you. do you have the part number of the new seal you are trying to install. there are several seals on the main pump. I am unsure of which one you are after. thanks so much
its unclear why you cannot get seal to sit in the housing deep enough to install the snapring. at this point I would remove that end of the pump housings. install the seal and snapring and reassemble. I have a feeling that something has moved or separated once the old seal was removed.
I've attached a picture i'm talking about removing part number 20 (housing then installing the seal in that housing and snapring. this will atleast allow you to see if the parts are sitting in the proper place.
If there is a collar it would just have to sit against it. i would verify the depth against the old seal.
