What did engine do? Frosting at the intake is not uncommon and usually does not affect operation.

Tractor acted like it ran out of gas, died. Let it set for 10 minutes and frost went away, then tractor started

Engine full of coolant? Fuel line routed close to the exhaust, where it could vapor lock?

Would too cold of thermostat make a difference 150 degrees

Thermostat needs to be higher temperature, but I doubt it would cause the freezing, but the manifold would have a heat riser that could be stuck ,not allowing the manifold to warm up.
