Customer Question

I have a late model john deere 425 not charging with a 5 wire voltage regulater. Battery voltage is 12.4 running and 12.6 not. Battery light stays on. I need a step by step testing procedure to diagnose it,thanks.

Hi I'm Wayne

I will help you with this

most times it is not the Regulator, rather the alternator

measure the volts on the battery terminal on the alternator

and there should be a small wire on it also

check the voltage there

I hope this helped you

Your response makes no sense.I have a 425 john deere garden tractor. It has a 5 wire plug in to the voltage regulator I need a step by step test procedure for testing the charging system to know what is causing it to not charge and the bat. light to stay on.

Thank you for that

With all do respect to you , only 2 thinks go wrong

for it not to charge , Voltage Reg. or alternator or a broken wire (not common)

in the harness, I asked you to measure the voltage at

alternator battery terminal, and voltage at the small terminal

on alternator to make sure you have 12+ volts

you already replaced the regulator, so that leaves Alternator
