Usually it is not the battery , but the charging system, which has stator coil under the flywheel and a voltage regulator on the side of the engine is not charging. Need to test battery voltage with voltmeter, check before stating, should be around 12.5 volts and running at full throttle around 13.5 volts. If not, charging system needs to be checked. Stator puts out AC volts and has to be a minimum of 28 volts AC, when unplugged from the regulator. Regulator when plugged to stator has to have 1/2 of stator voltage in DC volts, around 14 volts.

I see question is still open. Did you get the charging light to go out?
