Customer: I have a LA120 with the T40J hydro tranny, 9 years old, 110 hours. It had been running fine, no loss of power. Suddenly, it won't go forward/backward now after I removed and repaired a flat left rear tire, engine runs fine. Parking brake does NOT keep tractor from moving when give it a push. Freewheel lever, when disengaged (pushed in), does NOT keep tractor from moving when pushed. Tranny drive belt appears OK and tensioned. Its possible I may have left the freewheel lever engaged at some point (pulled out) and started the engine and stepped on forward pedal. Have I damaged the tranny? Any way to repair without replacing the whole tranny? Thanks

Go back to the tire side you removed, and you will find you lost the key that locks axle and wheel together!
3/16 X 2 inch square key.

You are correct !!. But, I took the other wheel off to check and it DOES have the key in the axle....so if the tranny was working, shouldn't I have gotten some movement of the tractor when I stepped on the forward pedal?
No, if either key is missing, you have zero drive!

With both wheels off and tractor on jacks, I stated engine and looked at left and right axles when I depressed the forward pedal and they both were moving !!. You are right...thanks very much, I have ordered a key to replace the one I lost.
