Wayne Joumeyman, you answered a question for me in October, about a 2155 john deere, pto. The trans/hydrolic fluid is good. what else could it be? Thank you Fred Koch

Deere 2155 has various PTO set ups. Is yours activated by a dash mounted switch, or a lever ? If it has dash mounted switch, it has a solenoid that engages the hydraulic clutch pack. Voltage to the solenoid has to be 12 volts, and the solenoid has to stay fully opened for pto to work properly. If it has a lever, it has no solenoid, just a mechanical valve body that controls the flow of fluid to the pto clutch. If you have buzzing, this valve body has stuck valve or trash in it.

What type pto do you have? You obviously do not have the manual pto, that is just gears that engage and disengage to drive the pto shaft.

Follow the pto lever linkage to the control valve. see if this is where the noise is coming from. If it is, you have a leaking valve in the control valve. Valve may be stuck, or spring may be broken

The linkage goes into the transmission, on the right side of the step through area. The noise comes from in front of there, on the other side of the tractor.

Can you explain once again for me, as to what does the pto do? It drops out? does the lever move out of position? Do you have to put it back in gear? Are gears always engaged, or do the gears grind? 2155 has too may different pto drives!

It will work for a long time, or it wont stay engaged at all, or it works for a short time then disengages. The lever drops and has to be engaged again. The tractor is in gear most of the time. Unless i just fire up the tractor to see how its working. Then the tractor is out of grear. The pto does the same thing, may or may not work. The gears dont grind.

8/9/and 10. make the detent which should hold pto in gear, do you feel the detents when you move the lever?

i feels it. But when im moving and it kicksout. The lever wont engage. How does that explain the buzzing noise.

With it kicking out of gear and making noise, the bearing on the shaft may be bad, letting shaft move, kicking it out of gear and the buzzing is the bearing noise.

No, the to cover over the pto lever and the rear pto shaft cover will let shaft come out.
