I have a Deere 265 lawn and garden tractor I use to blow

Customer Question

I have a John Deere 265 lawn and garden tractor I use to blow snow. I recently went to clean my driveway and noticed I had a bit of trouble going uphill. As it stopped I noticed only one rear wheel was driving/spinning. Usually I leave tire chain marks on the driveway in pairs. Now there is only one. Left side drives, right side doesn't. Help?

Hi I'm Wayne

I will help you with this

What you are describing is a broken gear in the differential (side Gear)

I suggest that you drain some oil out of it to see if the oil is metallic color

It is just like a car positraction ,2 wheel pulling, not just 1

I will attach a Pic of it the gear is #16

I hope this helped you

Hi

another thing to check , is pull the axle out on the side that is not driving,

it may be broken, or the splines that go into the side gear may have stripped

Oil looks good at the dipstick. Jacked up rear wheels, blocked out seat safety and engaged drive. With no load both wheels in the air, both spin. If I grab the right wheel (stop it) the left spins. If I grab the left wheel the right spins. I took it off the jack and went for a ride. If I slam the stick forward only the left drives. Seems like the right tries to move a little but the differential seems to favor the left.

Thank you for that

You can not tell by the dip stick of the oil

it must be drained from sump to see it

I am thinking as before, axle splines my be damaged,

if 1 side pulls and other does not, that is no longer Positraction

it is a open rear end

not really any other explanation

either axle, or that side gears that I mentioned
