Thank you for the additional information, there is a significant amount of difference in the way they wired the two tractors.

Your tractor still has two different possible PTO wiring options. If you have a deluxe dash that shows pto speed then your tractor will be equipped with a pto speed sensor.

If you have the Deluxe dash there are two common problems that can cause the problem you describe. When the pto is turned on the controller checks for pto speed and the engage solenoid amp draw. If pto speed is not seen after a few seconds it shuts the pto back off. If solenoid amp draw is excessive then it will also shut the pto back off. If you have the deluxe dash look at pto speed to see the it reads any when the pto is running. No speed often indicates a failed pto speed sensor which is located directly above the pto itself. The pto solenoid is located on the back right side of the tractor above and to the right of the pto itself. You can remove the pto solenoid and swap it with the differential lock solenoid which is located almost directly above the pto solenoid. Use care when removing the coil as it can rust onto the valve stem. The coils will often swell up and crack the plastic housing when they fail.

If you do not have the deluxe dash and you do not have a pto speed sensor then your pto engagement is controlled by a time delay module under the right side consul. The time delay module is a yellow/orange box that provides a soft pto engagement. While I would first suggest swapping the differential lock solenoid with the pto the time delay modules will also cause the problem you describe.

The below diagram shows the pto engage solenoid, you can only swap coils if you have the #20 style valve.

The below diagram shows the time delay module as #4.
