koboma : The engine has oil cooler, oil in the coolant is caused by ruptured oil cooler core.
koboma : Here is link to the Deere parts site, you will have to input model number, look under Sectional Index, Engine, Oil cooler and oil filter.
koboma : The oil cooler is much more likely than the water pump.
koboma : The oil pressure is greater than the coolant pressure, so the oil flows into the coolant.
koboma : good evening.
koboma : I tried to attach picture but site has problems! Sorry.

koboma : Now coolant in oil can be from head gasket or a leaking front cover behind water pump.

thank you......will that cause coolant to leak externally..? is there a chance it could be from a bad water pump seal? i will replace the cooler....is there anything else i should do other than flush the system?
koboma : If it is coolant in the oil, I would remove oil pan, pressure up the coolant and see where coolant is leaking from.
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
no coolant detected in oil
koboma : Pudding consistency from crankcase hose???
koboma : Or radiator overflow?
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
yes......a quarter size puddle just below the vent hose
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
crankcase vent hose
koboma : So you don't think there is coolant in the oil?? Look at the oil filler cap, it is has pudding in it , you have coolant in the oil too.
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
just checked......oil cap dry......no pudding
koboma : Ok, so the oil cooler is all that needs to be checked.
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
is there a definitive test i can do at home?
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
to check for h2o in oil
koboma : Just get you some dishwasher low suds soap, and flush the radiator system.
koboma : You can loosen the oil plug after it sits overnight, If there is any coolant, it will show when the plug is loosened. If oil leaks out, you have NO coolant in the oil.
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:
will do.......thank you
koboma : Thank you!
