Customer: New Holland TC30 PTO Clutch Problem ? - The PTO shaft quit working. I was digging a small trench and the backhoe attachment quit working. After some troubleshooting I found the problem was not with the backhoe, but the PTO. The lever used to engage the PTO seems to work as normal. It feels to engage and disengage like normal, but the PTO shaft does not turn normally. At first it seemed to turn, but would not carry a load. Any load placed on the backhoe would stop the PTO shaft from turning. I am very familiar with the operation of the tractor and I don't think I am simply doing something wrong. Does the PTO shaft have some type of clutch that might be slipping ? Any ideas on what might be wrong ?

The TC 30 uses a one way clutch in the pto area. It is a bearing , that is supposed to lock shaft so it will spin the pto and freewheel when the pto shaft is being turned in opposite direction, as when bushhog would try to push tractor. If this bearing(one way clutch) goes bad, the pto shaft will not pull load. It is accessed through the rear pto cover and the three point cover has to be removed.
