The cruise control has stopped working, however it works once in a while very unpredictable and once on if you apply brakes, it will come off but will not turn on next time.

The first thing to do would be to test the brake light switch and the clutch switch if it has a manual transmission. Do you have a volt meter ? And are you willing to do some tests with me?
