CL: I recently had an Idle ControlValve changed on a 97 Acura

This answer was rated:

I recently had an Idle ControlValve changed on a 97 Acura Cl 3.0.
I was told that because i brought in a part the repair shop would not give me a description of the problems caused by a failed/faulty Idle Control Valve. Is it possible for you to give me this information?

Ok, the symptoms and problems caused by a failing IAC valve are :

  • rythymic up and down of idle while in park or drive and sitting still
  • high idle
  • low idle to the point of stalling out at a stop
  • hesitation when accelerating
  • hard start when cold
  • check engine light on
  • poor fuel mileage

It may only exhibit one of these, or more than one symptom

Could you explain what may happen while driving in Cruise control in as much detail as possible?

because the symptoms of a faulty IAC valve are either experienced with engine idling in park or in drive at a stop, or a hesitation on acceleration, you wont feel or notice any symptoms of a bad IAC valve at a steady speed with Cruise control set.
