I have a problem with the shifter display on the instrument

This answer was rated:

I have a problem with the shifter display on the instrument panel on a 2001 Acura Mdx.The 'D5' display does not light up and because of that number 1gear is not engaging. All the other shift positions light up and the transaxle range switch has already been replaced. The continuity test on the switch has already been done and passed.
What do you think is the problem? Thank you.

jimhondatech :

hi this is jim, i'm here to help you out, it sounds like the bulb is burned out, the d5 bulb is always on, what we usually do is take out the d2 dulb and put it where the d5 bulb goes, the d2 bulb is never on so the bulb will last awhile, just take the gauge cluster out and swap the bulbs

Customer:

Hi Jim,
Thanks for responding.Would you be able to provide instructions for removing the gauge cluster? Thank you.

jimhondatech :

here go, split the luster to gain access to the bulbs, you will see the column of bulbs just swap one out

Customer:

Hi Jim,
Does the fact that the " 'D5' light display does not light up" cause the transmission to not pull off in 1st gear? Do you know? Thanks.

jimhondatech :

no i shouldn't, are you sure you have the range switch adjusted properly

jimhondatech :

if it is adjusted ok, the trans is probably going bad, these tranis had there share of issues

Customer:
