i am trying to transfer a backed up file from an external hard drive onto my desktop. there are 2 existing companies / files on the quickbooks desk top now that are from prior attempts to switch from quickbooks online to desktop. want to be sure we transfer this file properly

are those in addition to the one on the hard drive ?

you can copy it to another folder to make sure that it is separate and doesnt over write the ones that you have

otherwise once you have the qb open you can go to file / open company

and select any of them. If one is the wrong one just go to the same file / open company and select another one.
