The 2012 Quicken that I just purchased for my new computer…

Sorry to hear of your difficulties today.

I think you really don't want to remove the 2012 version. The older version is no longer supported, of course, but more importantly, if you try to reinstall it, you will need to re-register it. This is a problem because Intuit no longer can register the 2000 version and you will have only 30 days before it stops working.

Quicken may not read directly from a flash drive, but that shouldn't stop it from working. Here's what you need to do to salvage your old data and bring it up to date in 2012:

First, you will need to obtain a copy of Quicken 2004, 2005, or 2006. You can usually find this inexpensively on ebay or used software stores. Each version of Quicken has updated the database structure. The 2012 van only convert files going back as far as 2004. So you will need to do an intermediate update to your Q2000 file first.

Make sure you do a simple copy of the data file on your flash drive to the hard drive first and do all the work with files on the hard drive.

Your first step is to install the 2004-06 version (just one of these will be needed) and then open the 2000 file. The program will automatically update the file to the database in that newer program. You won't need to register the 2004-06 version because you will use it this one time only.

Once that file is up to the mid-2000s version, then you can have the 2012 edition read that file and update it so that you can move forward with the 2012 edition.

Intuit supports only the current version plus 2 prior versions. Therefore, it is recommended that you upgrade your financial software at least every 3-4 years at the least.
