I have the Quicken 2004...

I have the Quicken 2004 product. I have been backing up my data for the last seven years. 10 days ago I found myself unable to back up the data either to the previous or a new flash drive or CDRW. I received the message "Disk not ready".
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 620, one year old.
What corrective steps are necessary to allow me to back up my data?

Can you back up to my documents folder on the hard drive and then copy the file from my documents to the flash drive ?

I attempted to backup to the computer's hard drive (C). The same reply occurred: "disk not ready." This is the same comment I have previously received when attempting to a flash drive, CD-RW or external hard drive.

Since all was working well until two weeks ago, could a Microsoft or computer update be the problem? Is there an update from Quicken or a driver that is required?

There are plenty of updates for quicken. They are up to 2012 and stopped supporting anything older than 2010. Their solution is going to be "buy the 2012 version because we no longer expect 2004 to work its out of support which means you are on your own"

if you would like to do that you can get a good deal at www.quicken.com/go/exclusive

You can download another copy of 2004 from this page for free but you would need your original product key to make it work for very long.
